Beatrice Offor (1864-1920) was born on the 21st of March, 1864 at Peak Hill Villa, Kent, where she then trained at the Slade School of Art in London. Famous for her portraits, some of which are shown below. Beatrice left the Slade in 1885 and continued for many years to have works presented by the Royal Academy. Often using her sisters as models, her portraits were often of brides of that era.
In 1892, Beatrice married William Farran Littler. William was also an artist and a sculptor in his own right. As well was a member of the Royal Institute of Oil painters from 1887 to 1892. Beatrice and William had two sons, Ralph and Eric, who both, unfortunately, died young. Two years later in 1899, William also died of chronic brain disease
Following such tragedies in life, Beatrice remarried J.P. Beavan in 1907. However, their time together was limited as on August 8, 1920, Beatrice jumped out of her bedroom window and committed suicide. She was taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital, but unfortunately, she died of her injuries the following day. Today, some of her paintings are located in The Bruce Castle Museum, where they remain.
